Cause That's How We Roll

10 Mins. with D3 - Eddie

Welcome to “10 minutes with D3”. We thought it might be kind of cool to run a monthly Q&A Session with members of the Daily Driven Dubz community and learn a little bit about what makes the community tick. We'll select one community member monthly and have them provide us a little information about themselves and their involvement with D3 and the community at large.

This month our featured guest is Eddie, who is a member of the D3PX (Phoenix AZ) Family. Eddie rolls a very nicely put together '58, and is one of the driving forces in the West valley.

D3: Who are you?

Eddie: Eddie Rodriguez simple man of simple ideals

D3: What does the government think you do for a living?

Eddie: Bounty Hunter.

D3: What's your outlook on life? (what do you want to be/do when you grow up?)

Eddie: I miss the old days. Times were simpler then. We need to get back to that.

D3: Do you have a Family?

Eddie: An understanding Wife, 2 Pups, 2 Kitties.

D3: How long have you been involved in the scene?

Eddie: About 18 years.

D3: What were your influences growing up?

Eddie: My Dad. He's been into cars as far back as I can remember.

D3: How many VW's have you owned?

Eddie: Seven.

D3: How did you end up with your first VW?

Eddie: I needed a ride that was cheap on gas. My wife suggested a H2O VW, but I got a bug in stead.

D3: Of the VW's you've owned, which was your favorite, and why?

Eddie: 71 standard bug. This car took me everywhere with out a hitch. It was quick too. I had it painted Mopar Lime green and white (talk about keeping it on the Down low, everyw here I went with it I was spotted... No sneaking around with that one .

D3: Any other cars you want to talk about?

Eddie: 73 beetle. My first all out resto-custom. This bug looked like a 63. I did all work on it myself. I had it out here for two years and sold it. I found out later it was stolen from the new owner. All that was ever found was the shell. My heart was broken but I think a piece of her came back to me in my new ride. I'll always miss Pandora

D3: What do you do when you're not playing with your dub(s)? (IE other hobbies, etc)

Eddie: Travel. I love to travel. I used to collect HotWheels. I also like spending time with my Family .

D3: How'd you get involved with D3?

Eddie: Found you guys through the Samba. Started to post and here I am Less than a year later...

D3: Describe your perfect VW

Eddie: a stock 56 beetle. For some reason I like the year.

D3: Is that your “Dream Ride”? If not, describe it.

Eddie: A 66 Karmann Ghia customized Airkewld style.

(NB: “Airkewld Style” means bagged, dumped, and generally sick looking. See http://www.airkewld.com for some examples. Hi Pete! :) )

D3: So, where is your fuel filter?

Eddie: I have Two one under the Tank and the other is just past the metal line where it exits the frame.

D3: Do you carry a fire extinguisher?

Eddie: In each vehicle. They're mounted within easy reach.

D3: What is the best thing you've done to your current ride?

Eddie: Its got to be the steering wheel. I see it every time I drive and love it.

D3: Someone hands you a million dollars tax free. How would you spend it?

Eddie: Buy my mom a Huge House In Puerto Rico, donate some to the Humane Society, travel, and start a VW retail store in the West Valley.

D3: Do you like your cars stock or modified/customized?

Eddie: It depends on What year they are. The earlies I like stock preservation. For the late 60s, full on custom.

D3: What's the longest drive you have been on in a dub? Why'd you make that trip?

Eddie: I Went on a cruise to a show back east the Maple Grove one from Jersey. it was a three hour ride one way in the lime green 71 . Our club back there was helping with the show, parking judging and so forth .

D3: What's the stupidest thing you have ever done to a dub? (ie. ruined your first engine by

taking it apart, added tons of fiberglass to the dash, etc..)

Eddie: Does Selling it count? it was stripped because of that.

D3: Where do you see the VW scene headed in 5 years?

Eddie:Hopefully towards preservation with a little bit of the european influence they are doing kool stuff across the pond.

Thanks Eddie! --fatalifeaten 12/04/2008
